Double-faced patterns: Mamasa Toraja

In the Tropenmuseum Amsterdam a bag of the indonesian island of Sulawesi is exhibited. This bag is made of double-faced tablet woven bands of the Mamasa Toraja tribe. The technique and some of the patterns are described in Marijke van Epen’s book Special Tablet Weaves.

Inspired by the bag and Marijke van Epen's book I wove a band with 13 different patterns appearing in that bag and shown below. My woven band is shown completely in my gallery. The patterns are decribed below.
